All New Football Stars of Tomorrow on Nine in June

Episode one of award winning television program Football Stars of Tomorrow has been confirmed for 2pm, Sunday 28th of June 2009 on Channel Nine.

Channel Nine personality Stephanie Brantz will host ‘Season Four’ of Football Stars of Tomorrow which will be screened during the ‘Wide World of Sports’, broadcasting grassroots football across the nation.

The following segments of season four of Football Stars of Tomorrow have been confirmed:

  • Star of the Week - Long serving club officials and/or volunteers will be rewarded for the dedication to their club/association.
  • Club of the Week - Weekly donations from Football Stars of Tomorrow will be made to a local club for their ongoing promotion of grassroots football.
  • Coaching Tips - Expert coaching tips from Football NSW High Performance Manager Paul Bentvelzen as well as Sydney FC Captain Steve Corica and Central Coast Mariners Coach Lawrie McKinna will provide viewers with expert coaching advice on all facets of the round ball game.
  • Health and Fitness - Australian and Everton FC star Tim Cahill will provide viewers with advice on keeping healthy and keeping up fitness during the football season.
  • Celebrity Shoot Out - Prominent Australian celebrities such as Rugby Union great John Eels, Australian Cricket icon Adam Gilchrist and Boxing World Champion Anthony Mundine are some of the stars joining Football Stars of Tomorrow in a shoot-out with a local association club.
  • Socceroos - Football Stars of Tomorrow was lucky enough to sit down with various current Socceroos at their homes, training centre’s and matches across the UK and Europe. Socceroos featured in this segment include, Lucas Neill (West Ham), Mark Schwarzer (Fulham FC), Tim Cahill (Everton FC), Vince Grella (Blackburn Rovers), Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers), Harry Kewell (Galatasaray), Marco Bresciano (Palermo) and Zeljko Kalac (AC Milan).
  • Star of Tomorrow - Profiling a promising young footballer from around the country.
  • Goal of the Week - ‘Goal of the Week’ features goals from around the country submitted to the crew at Football Stars of Tomorrow. Weekly winners are in with a chance to win fantastic prizes. Entries for Goal of the Week can be sent to (DVD only): Goal of the Week

Football Stars of Tomorrow, although primarily targeted at children aged 8-16, proved to be popular with adults as well and accumulated an average of 92,000 viewers a week in 2008, resulting in a total viewership of 1.75 million.

Its’ aim was to not only promote the game at the grassroots level, but also to target viewers from various demographic backgrounds.

Football NSW Commercial Services Executive Manager Tony Peters is adamant the show can be a success on commercial television with the support of the greater ‘football community’.

“Clearly Channel Nine are putting their foot in the water to test the sport; it’s up to the football family to ensure the program stays on Channel Nine long term by supporting it.

“Football NSW applauds production crew G Max Media Group and Channel Nine in their support of promoting the round ball game at grassroots level.”

The new season of Football Stars of Tomorrow can still be seen on Fox Sports and will feature exclusive access to the 2009 TeleChoice Premier League.

Episode one can be seen on Fox Sports on Wednesday August 19th 2009 (4:30pm), with episode two due to screen on Friday August 21st 2009 (4:30pm).

FoxSports will screen two Football Stars of Tomorrow episodes a week (Wednesday and Friday – 4:30pm) culminating in the 2009 TeleChoice Championship Series Grand Final on September 23rd 2009.


About Football Stars of Tomorrow

Football Stars of Tomorrow is a unique Football NSW produced Television program, targeted primarily at children aged between 8 and 16. Established in 2006, the show has featured on both SBS and Fox Sports over the past three years.

Aimed at showcasing grass roots football, Football Stars of Tomorrow highlights the link between club football and the elite level.

Segments including ‘Goal of the Week’,  ‘Coaching Tips’, ‘Star of Tomorrow’, ‘Futsal Fever’ and a weekly NSW Premier League highlights piece, as well as a Celebrity component which included the likes of Steve Waugh and Anthony La Paglia, were all part of this ground breaking program.

In 2008, twenty episodes were shown on Fox Sports each Wednesday (4:30pm) and repeated on Saturday (12:00pm); episodes were also repeated on SBS (3:30pm).

The growth and ongoing success of the show was mirrored by viewership, with over 1.2 million viewers channeling in to Football Stars of Tomorrow on Fox Sports in 2008.

Overall, the show accumulated an average of 92,000 viewers a week, resulting in a total viewership of 1.75 million.

Growing from strength to strength, 2009 promises to be a another ground breaking year for Football Stars of Tomorrow will Football NSW envisioning the program airing on commercial TV.

Football Stars of Tomorrow was recognised in early 2009 by the NSW Sports Federation, winning the Annual NSW Sports Federation Media Award.
