Force 10 free kick

Engelo Rumora (Dural) turns and shoots

Futsal 4 All Phoenix vs. Any District action
On a bitterly cold Monday night at the Sports Halls, Sydney Olympic Park for the final round of the Futsal Winter State League.
In the women’s action match of the round saw first placed V.I.M take on fourth placed Hachies. V.I.M started the brighter in the open exchanges and took the game to the young Hachies side. Hachies looked dangerous on the counter attack and took the lead when L. Moore’s effort found its way past T. Rosekelly in the V.I.M goal. V.I.M didn’t panic and equalized two minutes later when N. Spirovski beat her maker and slotted the ball across A. Horafios and into the back of the net. Both sides had a few chances after that but the scores remained locked at one-one at the break.
The second half started with a bang with A. Bowering scoring just after the kick of when she was left unmarked at the back post. Hachies were still in the contest and should have equalized when N. Hamson found herself unmarked in the “D” but she couldn’t get her shot on target and it went wide. Hachies were punished for that miss when R. Tomkins made it three-one when her effort was too hot for Horafios and gave the young keeper no chance. Hachies kept fighting and got one back through R. Fleming in the dying minutes to make it interesting, V.I.M proved to be too strong and held on to the lead. The results see V.I.M crowned minor premiers while Hachies finish fourth. The semi finals are now set with a re-match of tonight’s match between V.I.M and Hachies, while in the other semi final Force 10 takes on Sydney City Quake with the winner of both semi finals progressing the final.

In the men’s action match of the round Northern Tigers could not make the semi finals but were looking to cause and upset with a win against top placed Dural Warriors. This match was an entertaining contest with both keepers getting a work out. Northern Tigers started the brighter and took an early lead thanks to A. Smajovic’s effort that somehow found its way past I. Pemberton. Dural was always a threat when E. Rumora was on the ball. Rumora had Dural’s best chance in the first half when he turned two players but his shot went wide.
In the second half Dural started the second half strongly passing the ball nicely around the court however they were unable to capitalize on that fine passing. Northern Tigers were not fazed and were happy to sit back and absorb the pressure being applied by the Warriors. Northern Tigers then extended their lead thanks to C. Cowley’s goal that again gave Pemberton no chance in the Warriors goal. Dural were rattled and finally settled down and clawed their way back into the contest when B. Rosier’s shot from inside the “D” found the bottom corner of the net. The Warriors then drew level in the last minute of the game when Rumora low shot from the edge of the “D” gave the Warriors a hard earned point. With the semi finals now set winner of Pool B Dural Warriors will take on 2nd in pool A Pirates, while Pool A winner Maccabi Maulers take on 2nd in Pool B Quake Youth.
