Indigenous Football

Community Partnerships

Football NSW is proud to be partnering with community based regional teams in Bourke, Wellington, Cobar and Wagga Wagga.

The Indigenous Football Development Program aims to provide increased football resources, reduce the barriers and increase participation opportunities in the local community.

Football NSW recognises the diligent efforts of the Bourke Soccer Club, Wellington football club, Cobar Soccer Club and Wagga Football Club and looks forward to supporting their efforts to increase and improve Indigenous participation opportunities within the community.

Nations of Origin

The Nations of Origin concept is a joint initiative of Football NSW, the Police and Community Youth Clubs (PCYC) and traditional indigenous nations.

The Tournament is designed to promote reconciliation within communities by engaging Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and people of non-Aboriginal decent.

The concept of the tournament follows the successful outline of the inaugural 2013 Nations of Origin Rugby League 7’s tournament.

The tournament was initiated after consultation with Aboriginal communities across NSW and young people with ways in which to commence reconciliation between young people and provide an avenue for the young Indigenous community to commence discussion within their families and communities on their cultural identities.

The tournament coincides with national NAIDOC Week, which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
